EROTICA est le 1er single extrait de l’album éponyme ! Ecrite par Shep pettibone et Madonna, ce titre évoque le personnage de DITA, inventé par madonna elle-même et inspirée de Dita Parlo (actrice allemande). Une nouvelle rupture musicale pour Madonna qui s’essaye à un style plus « rap » et sombre avec une musique à fortes basses. Premier single à sortir sous la bannière Maverick Records, maison de disque fondée par Madonna, il parvient à envahir le sommet de tous les charts !
Mais bien sûr, cette chanson n’évite pas le scandale et la controverse. Outre le ton sexy sadomasochiste et langoureux de la voix de Madonna, c’est bien le clip, dirigé par Fabien Baron, qui fera l’objet d’interdictions de diffusion puisque certaines images de nudité choquent les américains ! Le clip est une compilation de scènes et d’images prises lors des sessions ayant servies à la production de son non moins scandaleux livre S.E.X. que adonne sortira dans la foulée.
