Ce 4ème extrait de Like a Prayer ne sortira à l’époque qu’aux Usa, au Japon et en Australie avec un succès plus mitigé que les précédents singles. Ce n’est en réalité qu’en 1995, pour promouvoir sa compilation de ballade « Something to remember » que le titre sortira en Europe ! Ces chansons étant désormais plus autobiographiques, Madonna exprime sur « Oh Father » les relations tumultueuses qu’elle peut entretenir avec les hommes et en particulier son père avec qui, après la mort de sa mère, les tensions étaient importantes !
Entre chanson pop et ballade, la critique salue la performance même si le public ne semble pas accrocher ! Réalisé par David Fincher, le clip, à nouveau en noir et blanc, est remarqué par « Rolling Stone » magazine qui le classe parmi les 100 meilleurs clips. Il met en scène une madonna mi-enfant mi-adulte qui vit la mort de sa mère et subit un père abusif.
