Le titre POPULAR est sorti par THE WEEKND en juin 2023 en tant que second single de l’album soundtrack de la série THE IDOL dans laquelle il joue lui-même l’un des personnages principaux. Si le titre est initialement prévu pour être une collaboration avec PLAYBOI CARTI, le projet a finalement inclu MADONNA !

Dans une interview, THE WEEKND dira de MADONNA : « I’ve always wanted to work with her. She’s the ultimate co-sign for this song, for this album, and for this TV show. And you’ll hear more of her in the show as well too. She is the ultimate pop star ».

Si une première vidéo avec des images de la série THE IDOL est d’abord sortie, face au succès rencontré par le titre, une vidéo est tournée en août 2023 dans laquelle THE WEEKND dance et boit à Hatfield House, MADONNA danse et se roule dans le canapé d’un loft et PLAYBOI CARTI danse autour d’une voiture de luxe.
