Avec une image plus « saine », la critique ne peut que remarquer le changement d’image salutaire de l’icône sulfureuse … et Cherish rencontre lui aussi le succès auprès du public atteignant le top 10 de la plupart des classements mondiaux.
Pour le clip, Madonna s’enjoint les services d’Herb Ritts et se fait filmer en noir et blanc à Malibu sur la Paradise Cove Beach ! Jouant son propre rôle, Madonna est entourée d’hommes tritons, véritables symboles de la communauté homosexuelle et de l’oppression homophobe.
